The other day at my writers’ meeting we had an editorial cartoonist as a speaker. I enjoyed him very much. His name is Ed Stein. He ticked off the republicans but I thought he was fantastic. Some of us were laughing hysterically. A few were frowning.
I could really relate to him as he talked about the eternal hunt for the right pen, ink and paper combination; and after you finally find it, one of the items is discontinued, and the search goes on.
It was nice to talk to someone who gets the art/writing combination. All of my other groups understand either the writing or the art but not both.
He talked about cartoonists conventions. I like conventions. I love spending time with colleagues who really get me. Like you, I am a multi faceted being. Since there is a convention for every facet, I would have to attend every convention and meeting that pertains to that part of me. If I could I would be a professional conventioneer and possess thousands of books. There are so many of them that pique my interest there just isn’t enough time or money to collect or buy or attend them all.
As I listened to him I thought about all of the sketches and ideas I had piled up in my studio. We talked a little shop after the meeting, then I came home to my own studio.
